Postcards are in the Mail!

I love it when I get something done ahead of schedule!! I got all of my postcards done for the International Post Card Swap last weekend and they went in the mail on Monday. They have already been received by a few gals, one is in Florida. That got there pretty fast! Just wanted to share a few pictures of them here:

Found these cute 60's inspired valentine cards at a thrift store, they came with little tattoos
(see the peace sign tattoo on the top card in the upper right corner)

Decided to stitch them onto some bright tie-dyed looking fabric that I had in my stash

Printed the back of the postcard onto some bright yellow card stock, sprayed em using a
peace sign stencil I had made, and then stitched the fabric front to the card back. I'm happy with
how they turned out, so bright and colorful. Couldn't bear to have them possibly damaged going
through the mail, so put them into some nice bright envelopes and mailed them that way.

Some of my cards were going to Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Canada, and of course
the United States. Can't wait to see where I will be getting cards from! I'll share pictures when I get them.
Hope you're having a a happy January!

Themed Art Journals

Happy January everyone!

I'm sure that many of you are like me...Sometimes you want to do some art journaling but don't know what to journal about. This is why I have started keeping themed art journals. When I'm looking for images, etc., in magazines, I pull out pages for several diff. themes that I'm thinking of making journals about. For example, I have been hoarding pics of watches and clocks and all the sayings about time I can find. I put them in a clear sheet protector and someday I will start a journal about time and when I'm ready, I will have plenty of material to work with. I also have stashes of anything chocolate related, fingernails/fingernail polish, flowers, dogs, and animal prints. The dog journal I am working on is a child's book titled 'Dog Tails' - what a find, 50 cents at a thrift store! I gessoed all the pages inside, but left some of the pics showing. I work on it as I find pictures and someday will also alter the cover.

And just today I found this cute, little, pink animal print jewelry case. Had to buy it, only $1.49, cuz now I can start working on a book that will fit inside the case. I have animal print fabric, animal print wallpaper samples and of course I will paint some background pages too. I  made a pattern for the size of the book/pages so it will fit inside the case. I'm anxious to get started on this one!

Last year I made a journal for 2012. It has a front and back cover and 12 inside pages - one page for each month of the year. That gave me yet a different journal to work in when the mood hit me. I'm thinking about doing that every year now. It'll be kind of neat to look back at them in several years!

Thanks for visiting my blog, I do truly appreciate it and hope you get a little inspiration when you're here!

Wanna Swap some Postcards?

The International Mixed Media Postcard Swap V.3 is beginning soon! Go to this link if you are interested in putting a little of your own creativity out there into the world.  Postcard swap info here.

I have done this swap the last 2 times and its always fun to receive cards back from all over the world. Previously Shannon, the facilitator, has done this for free, but this time there is a small fee of $5.00 to join. This is well worth it in my opinion. Go ahead, get a little messy with collage and glue, or maybe you wanna sew up some funky cards, painting is always a hit, do what you do best! Make 10 of em, all the same, or all different, I don't think it matters! Here is a pic, and the blog post (click here) that shows what I did with my post cards for the last swap that went out in Feb. 2012:

Hope your 12-12-12 Day is an awesome one!

Painted, Repurposed Old Door

So what's a girl to do when she's wide awake at midnight...how about paint an old door!
I found this old door during our last city wide cleanup. Took it home cuz I just knew that I'd do something with it, someday. I painted it aqua last summer and thats as far as I got til the other night. I spent the last two nights having fun with paint and stencils, graffiti style. Still have a little doodling to do on it but I had to prop it up and see what 'accessories' I had that would go with it. Seems like I have the most fun when stuff hits me late at night and I just go for it without 'thinking' about it! Hope you like the 'eye candy'!!

I've been published! (...kind of)

Ok...so I've kind of been published, let me clarify...

Our local newspaper did a story on local artisans that have Etsy shops as a lead in to Cyber Monday and I was lucky enough to be one of those interviewed! There were 4 of us from Watertown, SD that were interviewed for the newspaper article, (but there are a few more that didn't make the article) and I wanted to share my local artist/crafter's sites with you:

The first is a.k.a. originals, makers of hand stamped jewelry.

The second is Mechanical Junkie, and he likes to 'pick' and sell vintage items

The third is FootePrint, Roger's Woodworks, and you guessed it, he makes stuff out of wood

And the last one was my shop, jenna kannas designs  with my art journals

Other local etsy shops are:
Telegraph Road, who makes stockings, bags and aprons
Ana Kveene, a paper goods shop
Anny's Shop, crocheted baby beanies

If you get a chance, it'd be great if you checked them out!

And as promised, a few more pics of journals that will be going on my site as soon as I can get to listing them!

Don't forget, I'm offering 20% off everything in my shop to help with your Christmas shopping,

Recycled Envelopes Art Journal

This is a cute little journal that I made a few months ago entirely out of recycled envelopes. The cover is from a pair of girls jeans that I found at a rummage sale - sewn onto an envelope- and the tags are all made from various food boxes. Most of the envelopes are either painted or covered with painted paper that I used to cover my work table. Some of the envelopes are stitched together, and they are all handsewn into the binding. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Cover from a pair of girls jeans, I used the button enclosure from the jeans
to keep the journal closed.

Close up of one of the tags

The book is wonderfully chubby! This is why I am glad I used the button enclosure!

Love the google envelope!

Backs of the tags - see all the different boxes I used!

Art journaling does not have to be an expensive hobby. Just use what you have around the house!
